SOUNDcheck

The goal of SOUND is to certify environmentally and socially responsible products and mark them with a SOUND label, making identify these products. Not unlike EnergyStar for appliances. This has not been done before for clothes and fabric because the process for making them is far more complex than you may imagine.

The supply chain begins at the origin of the primary material -- fields for cotton, ranches for wool and leather products and polymer (plastic, derived from petroleum) for synthetic products like polyester and fleece. From fiber to yarn to fabric (including dying) to finished product our clothes pass through many countries and many hands before we wear them. For legal, financial, and logistical reasons, SOUND is not yet able to officially certify products, but we're working on it. In 2009 you can start looking for the SOUNDcheck label.

We need your help! Check out our Get Involved page to learn how you can join the cause.
